Learn How You Can Cope With Acid Reflux


Does your chest hurt from time to time? Does it feel worse when you lie down? Is it after a meal that the pain usually begins? Do you taste bitterness in your mouth? Stop eating for a period of three hours or more before going to sleep. You need to stay upright for at least two hours to allow your food to properly digest. When laying down, the acid may climb back up. Therefore, stay in an upright position for at least three hours.



Your eating style can bring on acid reflux. Many folks eat rapidly, and consume abundant amounts. This can cause significant problems for someone suffering reflux issues. Don't eat excessively. Stop when you are no longer hungry. Slow down your meal eating too. Lay the fork down between taking bites and slowly chew your food thoroughly.

Stay at a normal weight to avoid suffering from acid reflux. This condition occurs when fat weighs down on the stomach. When you lose that weight, you will find the sphincter works properly by keeping stomach acid from rising up.

Stop smoking if you want to get rid of acid reflux. Smoking can cause acid reflux by corrupting your digestive system. Smoking slows down digestion and saliva production, both of which worsen reflux. The esophageal sphincter is weakened as a result. So stop smoking now.

Stress is a major contributor of acid reflux disease. Excess stress increases stomach acid production, which causes acid reflux. Relax after eating. Do some meditation, yoga or deep breathing exercises.

Don't exercise vigorously after eating as this could cause terrible acid reflux problems. When you exercise, the abdominal muscles can push food that's in the stomach up through the esophagus. This can result in acid reflux. If you must exercise after eating, at least wait an hour before doing it.

There are times that reflux could become so painful that you think you are having a heart attack. However, you should never ignore chest pain. It could be a heart attack. Call your doctor immediately to find out what to do. You do not want to suffer serious health problems because you misdiagnosed yourself.

Elevate the head portion of your bed. You can elevate the head of your bed using bricks, concrete or wooden blocks. Make sure your head is at least a half foot higher than above the end of the bed. By elevating your chest and head, you prevent stomach acid from traveling upward to your esophagus.

You should treat acid reflux before it causes damages to your digestive track. You aren't suffering from a cold or other form of illness, and it is likely that your food is not causing you problems. You're now sure it's acid reflux and that it needs to be treated. Put in the time and energy to make the right changes and you will feel right as rain.
